Nothing Fancy
Booming Comedy Club Finds New Home in Kensington Market
Featuring Tito’s Barbecue Cookout
Nothing Fancy, a popular and independent comedy club in Toronto, will celebrate the opening of their new home at 276 Augusta Avenue in Kensington Market with two grand opening showcases on Friday, July 15. A favourite spot for local comics and visiting acts, Nothing Fancy has quickly become a home for the city’s funniest people.
Nothing Fancy will open their new home with two “Fully Fancy Friday’ showcases on July 15 with performances by fan favourites Tamara Shevon, Courtney Gilmour, Mike Wilmot, Rebecca Reeds, Nick Reynoldson and more.
Nothing Fancy is also proud to be the home of Tito’s Barbecue Cookout. Started by two buddies who literally met on the street, Joe Harlem and Miles Medrano bring Filipino cuisine to the new Nothing Fancy location. From crispy lumpia to fresh hot sisig made to order, audiences can enjoy throughout the evening, and come back for brunch as well!
Nothing Fancy first opened on Dundas Street West during Summer 2020, running shows on a back patio during the pandemic. Since then Nothing Fancy has emerged as one of Toronto’s hottest new stages, and will move to a larger space in Kensington Market this summer to grow along with their audiences.
Nothing Fancy is operated by owner Alberto Richards, general manager Zoe Rumney, and comedy coordinator Bria Hiebert. The venue provides a comfortable and professional environment for both audiences and performers of all levels. Nothing Fancy programs their own shows, where all spots are paid spots, but also offers space to self producing comedians. Nothing Fancy hopes to create a model that aids in creating a cultural shift within the comedy community.
