TKFW S/S 2020 – Season III
Kickin’ It Up at Daniels Spectrum!
By Joseph Edward Schur
I like fashion shows. The energy, the stylish people, even the chaos.
From the moment that I arrived at Daniels Spectrum in Toronto’s east end, I knew that this show, the third for Toronto Kids Fashion Week, was going to be different. It was going to be fun.

After signing in at reception, I entered the great hall and was dazzled with the festive decorations, providing a warm and inviting atmosphere. This was my third time attending TKFW and I continue to be impressed with how well organized this event is.

Before long, I was greeted by Demi Theo, one of the volunteer organizers. I always enjoy seeing Demi as she has an air of sophistication and lends class to any event she is involved with. I congratulated her on TKFW’s success, in anticipation of another outstanding show. I was thrilled when she told me that the event was more than just sold out, they had to bring in an extra 87 chairs to meet the demand for ticket sales!

During the pre-show reception I had the chance to spend some time with my friend Ned Ma, the celebrated and internationally acclaimed Fashion Photographer and Celebrity Stylist. Of course, he looked amazing, blinged out in Versace and Chanel. As we chatted about the show, the designers and the kid models, we agreed that TKFW has the potential to be trendsetting in promoting children’s fashion on the world stage.
The venue was filling up quickly with excited guests. Anxious to see one of my favorite performers before the show, I was able to navigate through the crowd and snuck into the main auditorium, with the stealth of a ninja. Well, okay. Not exactly a ninja, but I got in. And there she was, the center of attention, the singer/actor/anti-bullying activist Jadyn Rylee, who at only 13 years old has earned the respect and admiration of millions of fans from around the world. I was looking forward to seeing Jadyn again, with her mom and dad Tara and Colin, and her cute-as-a-button kid sister, Dev. I have so much respect for this family.

Upon exiting the auditorium, I caught up with my colleagues from Spencer Magazine: Rose Marie Bresolin, our Managing Editor; Marcia Reid, our Social Media Director along with Wanda Ryan and Jonathan Levy, from our Editorial Board of Directors. Jonathan is also Spencer’s brilliant Photographer, providing the pictures you see here.
Fast forward to the Fashion Show. As the lights dimmed, I settled down to enjoy what would most certainly be a spectacular show, including special performances.
Until next time…
